What is this part?

So I was driving home from work today and it sounded like something fell off my car, so I turned around and picked it up off the road and it was this. It looks like the part where it broke off was jb welded on at some point. Any help would be much appreciated.

I once saw a bumper sticker on an old Jaguar,

"The parts falling off this car are of the finest British manufacture."

I love it!

That doesn't look like any part I've ever seen in my 8 years of MINI ownership, but that's probably not saying much.

It feels the same. It has been a little rough for awhile now though.

Good clue. Sounds like the counterweight got jammed against the crossmember, and someone forced it. I'd guess it wasn't done by the dealer, or a specialist with a lot of MINI experience.

I've got this on my classic Mini. Gets a lot of laughs and comments, for sure!

I know MINI won't help you. I'm trying to find a Getrag supplier myself. I need new clutch plates for my differential. It seems like the only part that's available separately are the axle seals. Good luck.
