Revs shoots up when pushed to the floor.

So, I've had my MINI for quite some time (Pushing just over 160k :p) and have never had any problems out of it. Until recently... I noticed whenever I press the accelerator to the floor, or even just past about halfway, my revs instantly shoot up about a thousand or so then gradually reside to the normal value, no matter which gear I'm in.

I'm assuming it's something to do with the clutch, but I'm not exactly sure which part it would be. If it's a certain part, then I have a friend who could help me replace it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Clutch! Replace the entire clutch assembly.. 160k is a lot of miles on a clutch.

That sounds like your clutch slipping. If you're going to replace one part on your clutch, might as well replace the whole assembly and flywheel. It's a PITA to get to, especially if you have other parts down there with 160k miles on them.

Sounds like the clutch is worn out. Is your car an S or non-S?
If a non-S you may just be able to get a new clutch and resurface the flywheel:

If an S you will probably need a new clutch and flywheel. The dual mass flywheel cannot be resurfaced.

Given the title, I was going to say "it's supposed to do that" (revs climb when you floor it), but yes, it's the clutch.
