Clicking sound when the engine is under a heavy load.

Hello everyone. I have a stock '08 R56S with about 62K miles and a manual transmission. I've noticed an odd 'click click click' noise when I accelerate somewhat quickly from a dead stop or when I'm already moving and accelerate heavily. The noise seems to be coming from the engine but every now and then it seems like it's coming from the back (The acoustics are probably tricking my ears when it sounds like it's coming from the back.). The noise doesn't care if it's warm or cold outside or if the engine is warm or cold, either. If I pull the ebrake and ease off the clutch while in 1st the noise doesn't occur even when the engine is about to stall. My oil level is fine and I don't have any chain link fencing or any other foreign metallic objects underneath the car.

Any thoughts as to what's causing this noise?

Post a video. Also has your timing chain been replaced?

I was thinking CV too since the noise doesn't happen when the car is not moving but the sound doesn't occur when I'm steering while I'm cruising around so I don't think it's that. And, no, no odd sounds occur when I'm turning tightly.

I'm going to be away from my MINI for a few days so I'll take a video and post it next week.

No, I'm still using the original timing chain.

The noise stopped after I tightened the front lug nuts a few lbs, switched from Chevron to Mobil and bumped up the PSI in my tires. (I'm trying to get a few more MPG.) I tried multiple times to get it to get the engine to tick but nothing. Since the noise occurred before the last time I rotated my tires, I'm going to mark this up to using Chevron. Anyway, thanks for offering to help.
