Vibration when canceling cruise, hitting brakes

Hi all,

When I am cruising along at highway speed (70) things feel fairly smooth as long as I am under power. When I am coasting, or hit the brakes or cancel the cruise, I feel a vibration. When its an abrupt change in power (brakes or cancel cruise) it feels like a mini clunk, katunk

Any ideas?

All I have done recently is rotate the tires and change the oil. And the "problem" was there before I did that. I am starting to think I am just paranoid and focusing on every little noise, rattle and squeek.

What type of transmission do you have? Typically, an abrupt change in torque that produces a clunk is related to one of the parts designed to soften that change: engine mounts, suspension bushings and that sort of thing. Do you get any rattles when driving over small bumps at any speed?
To check a worn CV joint, take it to an empty parking lot and turn the steering to full lock, then drive in a few tight circles, getting on and off the gas. Do the same thing in the opposite direction, each time listening for clicking and clunking.

Pretty normal....cancling the cruise when under load will make the engine suddenly move...as the drivetrain goes from putting out to coasting...engine mounts/tranny mounts may be worn a bit, but imo if you are not feeling it in normal driving, they are likly ok a bit longer.
On a 2005+ car, do look at the upper motor mount, and check for leaks...it is basicly an oil filled ballon in a,metal can with a couple of bolts....the vibrations can cause the rubber covering to tear, the oil leaks out, and the engine moves around much more....
