Replace both front wheel bearings, or just one?

My driver side front wheel bearing is bad. Should I replace both sides or just the one that is bad. If the driver's side just went bad, wouldn't the passenger side be on its way out as well?

135,000 KM

Also if someone has a Bentley or Haynes manual, could you post up the torque specs for all the bolts.

134ft/lbs for the Axle

The rest I'm not sure

TIA

Alex

Do you know why it failed?
I ask cause if it failed due to hitting a curb at speed, yes, i would do both, but if just wear and age, i would wait and save the $$ and see what happens......mostly due to the nature of many replacemnt parts.....some cars are running close to 250,000 miles or more on the factory bearings.....so absent of abuse, or a latent defect, many last a long time. Folks that have cooked their brakes repeatedly on autox seem to need more replacing from a few posts.....same for folks running non-standard rims, spacers...as in "stance".

Okay well, I started hearing the noise a few days ago. My tires were very very worn on my stock rims; so I bought a set of used wheels and tires locally. They are 17x8 et42 205/40. I assumed the noise was just from the old worn tires but I was wrong. It seems that the noise is even a bit worse now. I think because the offset has been changed.

the noise gets louder when turning right and more quiet when turning left. So that leads me to believe it is the driver side bearing. correct?

Ordered a new driver side wheel bearing. Since then the wheel bearing sound got worse, then sounded like pebbles flying around inside. I assume ball bearings breaking up. And now it has almost gone silent. Can still notice a louder sound but just barely.

Did you end up repairing the one side yet? The salt and corrosion get into the seal then the bearing makes its famous low growl or low hum. You can feel it a little in the steering wheel when its on the front.

I replaced mine at 150,000 miles so I consider myself lucky. One side went , then the other side went a month later.

Also watch so you bearing did not damage the ABS sensor a little . I had dirt and crud built up near the bearing seal and scrape the sensor head.

I would change them both, your logic is right on, they both have the same number of miles on them, at this point, why do the job twice?

I'm changing the bearing on the drivers side on Sunday. Ideally I would change both, but I'm a student just finishing the school year and I'm broke. So, if it aint broke, dont fix it is my motto ATM.
