My bypass valve sticks pretty badly. At least, that't what I believe is happening.

When I depress the accelerator, I have at least two full seconds before I get any boost. So my S/C is behaving like a big turbo.

If I hook it up to a code reader will it throw a code for that ?

 

Generally no....
If the bellows that connects to the vacum line fails..maybe, but due to a vac leak, not due to a sticky bypass valve.
You can try to ziptie the bypass valve closed, and see if you lag goes away...you loose some mpg, but easy test.

 

just zip tie that external lever that you can work open and closed by hand?

 

when the car is off, the valve is in closed position correct?
