2013 Mini GP clutch issues

I posted this in the GP talk section

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ky-clutch.html

Hello

I got my car back in January (am located in Abu Dhabi, UAE)

I drove the car without going full throttle till I completed 2000km for the break in period. As soon as I was done with the break in, I accelerated using full throttle and was surprised to find out that the clutch sticks to the floor for a brief moment and then comes back again (well,it feels as if something is not letting the clutch pedal come back up).
It only happens at full throttle and it is really irritating. I tried it several times and it kept doing it at high rpm wot shifts (not power shifting)

When I got home, the car had some smoke come out from the engine compartment towards the passenger side light.

Also,
When I reverse and then stop and push in the clutch, the rpm seems to wonder up and down. Very strange feeling and not linear.

Anyhow,
I took the car to my dealership and they flushed the fluid, still same thing.
They then ordered me a new clutch and I just had it installed.
When I came to pick it up, my service advisor told me that it is still doing the same thing!!! They asked me to drive it for 1000-1500km to see if it gets any better.

The car has a strong clutch and I do not get any kind of issues when I accelerate. It just happens that when I want to accelerate hard, the clutch pedal would come back slower than normal on wot.
It's getting on my nerves.
Other than the very touching brakes, this car has been great.

Anyone have any issues with clutch or pedals not coming back up?

My guess is that the clutch master and slave cylinders might need replacing. Maybe even the clutch pedal spring.

Confused.
Any help is appreciated

Shihab

hmm...very interesting. Question though, are you doing no-lift shifts? Sounds like some weird stuff going on with the smoke too and regardless your clutch shouldn't be sticking. Please keep us updated if you or the dealership figures it out.

No
Am not power shifting
It just happens when I shift at high rpm fast.
The clutch seems to want to stick to the floor for a brief moment.

sounds like a slave cylinder issue, and possibly a pressure plate issue.

Well,
I took the car to the dealership again and went to test drive today. They called me saying it was fine and that there is no problem with it. They said they compared it to another Mini GP. Oh, and the tech was mentioning that I was shifting too fast!!

Anyhow
I told them I will take the car for a test drive.
Went out on a 2 mile stretch. Went back and forth twice shifting at redline but NOT power shifting.
The clutch was still sticking but no slippage that I can notice.
The moment I drove the car back to the service department, it was bellowing smoke from the hood area with a strong smell of clutch.
I didn't ride the clutch but just drove it hard. If this is how the car acts on the street, then I wonder how it would act on a racetrack!!!

Am really disappointed with the quality of this Mini.
My previous Mini had no such issues and I used to track it.
All my cars are manual and none have a similar problem.

I am just pissed now.

Sorry Mini, but am not a happy customer and this is not the quality that I expect, especially from a limited run car.

Good luck. Take a tech with you on the drive.

Yep. Had the same issue when I got my Z06. They replaced the pressure plate and I no longer had any issues.
