OEM Turbo Inlet Pipe Crack / Rip

I have a 2009 MCS Convertible and while I was making a few adjustments to my CAI I had noticed that the turbo inlet pipe, down by the hose clamp on the turbo, had ripped? I am most likely going to have it replaced by the dealer but was curious if this has happened to people before?

seen it. do you have excessive blow by occuring? usually this is a common area for it to tear due to oil saturation from allot of blow by.

I don't think there is blow by occurring? Nothing sounds different and the engine hasn't thrown a CEL. How could I tell if this was the case other than having the dealer inspect the PCV ventilation?

Check for oil contamination in the inlet line. If there is anything more than a little engine oil residue, that's probably abnormal. Check out the photos I posted here:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...urbo-seal.html

That's pretty much all you should be seeing.

While you've got the piping off, check the compressor fins and see if they're covered in oil. A little bit is normal, however if they are black and coked up you've got a problem.

As an aside, does anyone know if the intercoolers on these cars have a drain plug?

There are no drain plugs on the intercooler. It must be cleaned manually.

Thanks for the replies! I'll try to take a look at it when I get home today.

As for the Intercooler, not sure why you'd have to clean it as only air passes through. Then again, I could be wrong.

The oil mist vents directly into the intake piping, passes from the compressor side of the turbo through the intercooler and, since the oil is hot and the intercooler cold, it condenses on the inside of the charge air cooler.

Over time it can build up in there and reduce it's efficiency.
