PS pump

My PS pump's electric motor will not shut off.
It runs the battery down, so I unplug the cable.
The PS pump stills works.
Will I have to replace the entire pump or can
fix or replace the electric motor.
One of the threads mentioned that there was not a
relay for the first gen models. Mine is an 03.

Most of you are very lucky getting the extended warranty.

05 mcs 94k failed pump and fan *EXTENDED WARRANTY DENIED*

Mine has the same pump as described in the letter (EHPS) with it's own fan (which both have failed). MINI won't replace diddly squat according to dealer and miniusa..... because my production date is May 2005. They decided to CUT OFF the warranty at production date FEB 2004.

So, Mini has "mis-calculated" the date at which pumps were changed.

I wonder if you can communicate with MINI directly. The production date of mine was 3/05, so I got denied. Didn't have any issues, just wanted to get it done.

The warranty (13 years / 150K) applies only to cars built prior to March 2005 (as an upgraded pump was used from that date onward).

Maybe so but it didn't help the issue with the cooling fan getting clogged up and letting it over heat the pump. I would raise hell with the dealer same exact issue upgraded pump or not

Things were worse when the MINI first was introduced. The power steering fan was unprotected by a grille until October 2003. Even worse cars built prior to January 2003 had the power steering fan on the same electrical circuit as the radiator fan. This meant that if road debris jammed the power steering fan causing the common fuse to blow, the radiator fan would not operate and the engine would overheat.

Putting the power steering fan on a separate electrical circuit was covered under warranty per Service Bulletin M320104. Many owners like myself added a shroud for there unprotected fans ...

Unfortunately I don't think you can hold MINI accountable for a stone getting past a protective grill and jamming the fan.

My PS failed a week or so ago. While it was in the local shop I discovered this thread and the contact information. I attempted an email using two completely different computers and different ISP's. Both have bounced back with failures as I have seen other posting. I guess I'll attempt the phone call, but based on what I've been seeing I'm not too optimistic. The car has a build date of 07/04 so I'm well within that limit and the car only has about 35K on the clock.
