Power Steering failure-and MINI possibly fixing

Cross your fingers....
But I wanted to keep people posted on this. The other day I had my power steering go out, and reading all the posts on here, we know where it will lead to.
I contacted MINI directly, and they replied needing some more info; VIN, mileage and address. (I have an 05 MCS with 106k.) Sent info, received a reply which said your info was forwarded and someone will contact you.
A day later get a call, (just now), and stated that MINI in Canada issued a recall to fix and when should I expect that here. Customer relations rep explained how a recall would work and I stated I understood, and I wouldn't have contacted MINI for something that would be wear and tear. She asked if this was diagnosed yet, and I said that I took it to MINI, but I was in parts-not service, where a parts person stated that PSP and coolant tanks fail on those. Long story short, the rep wants me to get it diagnosed and give her a call back to see what they can do further.
From the tone, everything sounded very positive.

If you live in Canada there was a recall as seen here. http://www.motoringfile.com/2012/02/...led-in-canada/

So you might be covered.

I just had my PSP, Fan, Reservoir and lines replaced, $1140.86 plus tax. If this recall does go through, I hope they will rebate us all who have been waiting for it to happen but had to do it because of failure. The garage I use germanperformanceservice.com used all new parts, no rebuilds.

My power steering just failed today. Will mini cover the replacement? I am not the original owner.

If your MINI fits in the guidelines in the above letter then I would say yes.

Did you receive this letter from the dealer you purchased your car from or the dealer where you service your car.

It came from MINI. It came in an envelope that would be easy to discard as snail mail spam were it not for the small logo on the reverse side.

got the letter

I got the letter yesterday from MINI. My pump is OK now (MINI replaced it once already under good-will warranty just beyond 50,000 miles), but I have recently had to replace the pump fan so I called them for details today. On the phone the customer service rep basically told me to send in my receipts with details on the car (VIN etc) and they would let me know if I'm eligible. Since I did the fan replacement last month before the warranty extension came out, I saved some $ by doing the work myself and buying just the fan aftermarket (not the whole assembly with bracket from MINI), so I am a little doubtful that they will give me anything but it's worth a try. I hope so, since I'd have bought their part if I'd been under warranty at the time, but we'll see what happens! I'll post back when I know more.

The PUMP, not the fan has the warranty....
PS..parts bought from MINI DO have a warranty...so the fan, if it was on the work order SHOULD have a 2 year warranty..not 100% sure since it is an electrical part, but you MIGHT get lucky if the fan WAS swapped out with the pump....

Wrong. The PS fan is covered also as seen in the letter.

It does. It's a 05 mcs convert, made on 10/04 (month/year) and has 78k miles.

If they will cover my car even though it's out of warranty and I'm not the original owner... then I'll be happy.

I do not cherish the prospect of looking at a $1000+ repair bill.

Received my letter today and I am ecstatic! Sadly I went through a private shop, so only parts will be covered, but that is still a huge chunk of money back in my pocket to the tune of more than $700. This is great news.

If you replaced your PS pump and/or fan and can provide documentation, yes.

Now, I know I posted that I will be taking my car to MINI, but how would I get the letter? Be the original owner of the vehicle? Meaning, what about the people who bought their vehicle used or private party?
