Dual mass flywheel inspection???

2002 MCS I'm near certain that my throwout bearing is shot so I ordered a clutch kit from Pelican today. This weekend when I pull the old clutch assembly out what do I look for when I inspect the dual mass flywheel. I've only worked on clutches with traditional flywheels. I didn't order a replacement hoping that the dual mass aren't that problematic. My car has 158k.

What clutch kit did you order?
I would sure think that with 158,000 miles you will need a flywheel.
Normally you could resurface a flywheel at the time of a clutch replacement but not the dual mass flywheel.

How I do it.

explains operation.

When they fail springs break.. so they clunk around.

Like that.

Very interesting. Some of the other video segments appear more detailed, but unfortunately they are in foreign languages.

I ordered the Super Kit which was a pressure plate, clutch disk, all bolts, throwout bearing, alignment tool, oil seals, fork.

Last night driving home the problem got a lot worse, and then it cleared up. It sounded like bearings slapping around in the case and after several shifts the noise went away for the most part. The noise was activated when I pushed in the clutch peddle. Once engaged the clutch felt fine. No clutch hop or slipping. It still points to a throwout bearing.....I hope.

I might order from a local auto store a dual mass flywheel to have on standby in case I need it. I would only loose the $50 airfreight if I didn't need it. Cheap insurance.

Thanks for the video posts....very informative!
