2004 MCS seat height failure

The other day I let the GF drive the cooper, she raised the seat height to the max because she is short. Today I get in and attempt to lower the seat it only goes slightly down and gets stuck. Some things I've tried so far,

Some one sat in the front seat as I sat in the back and put pressure on the back of the seat bottom as they attempted to lower the seat, no luck

Tried to raise it to its highest position and then tried to lower it. Same outcome.

The handle itself is stiff when lowering and then just stops. It's as if there was a lot of tension stopping it

Also tried my hardest to lower with brute strength. To the point of bending the handle half way off the seat.

I took a look under the seat and it looks like a piston and an arm that raises the seat, when raising the seat, and watching under the seat, I can not see where the seat is "binding" nor can I see it when attempting to lower the seat.

Any one else see/have this problem before?
