Fuel Filter Lid removal?

Anyone got any tips for getting the fuel filter lid off off the fuel pump? Not the metal ring, but the lid to access the filter. I can't seem to get that damn thing to turn, and can't get the damn assembly back in either so not like I can take it somewhere.
