2013 MCS Backfiring in 3rd/4th?

My MCS is ~1 month old and it's been great. However, a week or so ago I noticed a sort of thud coming from the back. At first I thought my hatch was open a little, stopped the car and reclosed it. Then I I thought it was just the parcel shelf I left sitting loose in the back and it was hitting the sides. Then when I rolled down the windows to enjoy the one day of nice weather we've had, I could hear the car backfiring whenever I let off the gas in 3rd/4th. Tested it some more, happens anywhere from 2k-5k rpms. Any ideas?

Turn off sport mode and try again.

As others stated its normal. My car does it all the time. In sport I can get out to sound like a firework.

I think it's better referred to as an "afterfire" since it's happening in the exhaust. It's not a problem. Get used to it and enjoy

Gen 1 S drivers enjoy pop and burble without having to push no stinking buttons. Gen 2 S drivers discover the 'added feature' by accident and think there's something wrong...always elicits a mild chuckle, not the discovery but rather having to push a button for something that should just be there. There are even some cars with 'burble' or a derivative thereof in their name.

Add an NM tune (if you can) and never push the sport button again, sadly missing the tightened steering, but never having to hear the idiotic backfire sound.

It's part of the character of the car to have the pop burble burp.

Yea I love the backfire. I got it timed to a science if I want to force it lol The downtown area of Lake Worth Florida speed limit is 20 mph so I let first wind up to 21ish then let off the gas. Boom! and people turn their heads

the guy I got this from has apparently gone out of the business as so many small MINI stuff vendors have ...

my old links all come up 404 - not found and searches yield nothing (he was MINI BEE on SunShineMinis.org)

on the other hand .... everything is for sale and that shirt sits on the bottom of my t-shirt stack .... I went and found it. I doubt it was worn/washed twice .. but the local gang knows it so game over.

XL, Haynes grey T

$10 if you want it and I'll send it in a Priority Mail flat rate which means you get it for about $4 (postage is $5 something) .... first PM wins . .
p.s. .

the burble from my 79 is not artificially induced!

If you are a detail person, yes I have a MK1 boot lid and tail lites . . .
twin DTM PlayMini all stainless, LCB, 1275 A+, SU HIF-6 w/K&N . . . .
