Ok so just an hour ago I was heading to the bank and I was driving casually going thru my gears smoothly to save gas. 1st was fine 2nd was fine and then 3rd it went it and then a split second later it popped out. Odd I must've not depressed the clutch enough to fully engage the gear. Starting off at the next light same thing, 1st, 2nd, then 3rd another split second later it popped out again. Ok lets try 4th and 5th see if they engage, they do. Only 3rd gear is popping out and whenever I got back to work I was sitting at a standstill in neutral and I heard a bit of a grinding noise coming from the transmission but when I depressed the clutch the noise went away. Does this mean my transmission is about to go out again? This is my 3rd tranny and 3rd clutch with this car and I hate to be replacing it every 2-3 years putting myself out of a couple grand each time.

Help, advice, words of wisdom will greatly be appreciated now. Sorry in advance for my small rant but its just a problem I thought was over with cuz I thought I got the golden midlands of them all

2003 Mini cooper Non-S with 130k+ miles

 

Exact same problem with my wifes mini last week. Ive been scouring the forum looking for advise and the only breath of hope I saw was where another guy put 40000 more miles on his mini with 3rd gear gone. I think we got 50000 on the 1st box and around a 100000 on this one. Not really sure what Im going to do yet or who Im going to get a transmission from?

So much for the 40000 more miles I read about we got an extra week...
