O2 sensor?

I have a 07 R52 with automatic transmission. Was driving down the highway last evening with the cruise on going 60 mph, top down enjoying the ride. Went down a hill and started up the other side (not steep) and I felt a very small shudder then went about a 1/4 mile and the cruise kicked out, the check engine light came one, and EP showed up in the speedometer readout. Took it back home and checked the engine code and it indicated a Fuel/Air metering problem. I understand the EP indicates a transmission issue. I have been getting good gas mileage. I am thinking a O2 sensor is giving me an issue and just wanted to get some verification from some of you.
Thanks

O2 sensor life is typically 100k - 150k miles if it is an OE sensor. If mileage is less, it is not the first place I would look unless there are other factors like it has been removed and handled a lot, dropped, etc.

On the O2 sensor you will see the mileage start to drop before you get the EML light which at that point it will through a O2 sensor bank 1 or bank 2 code. What was the error code, if its a position sensor fault code related to the throttle , its going to be the electronic throttle accelerator on the floor or the throttle housing body in the engine compartment.

Do you have a Cooper = CVT or Cooper S 07 MINI Convertible.

thanks

You will not feel ANYTHING when an o2 sensor goes bad...
get the code read...and go from there...what was the code?!
the exact code will narrow it down...without it....anything is just a wild azzed guess...there are thousands of things that can set a code...some big, some little.
also is it a S or NON-S,
apparently an auto right?

It is a CVT tranny. When I read the code I cleared it and now cannot remember the number, just that it said "Fuel/Air metering". Will take it out and see if it does it again, and make sure to keep the code number.
Thanks

Got it to code again, only much worst. Got two codes and they were P1125 and P1229. My reader showed them both the same and it said "Manufacturer Contri. Fuel Air metering." Since I have only had the car a few months and have not taken the time to really check out everything, I started looking under the hood for loose wires, broken hoses, etc. I did find where someone had not gotten the air filter top back on correctly and the air filter was pretty nasty. Will put a new filter in today as that would/could be an easy fix.
Thanks

Looks like codes point to the throttle position sensor on the throttle body and the throttle pedal. Make sure the connection to the throttle body and inside on the floor of the throttle accelerator are good and on.

You have a automatic so there is a different part number for the automatic transmission throttle pedal. Check the electrical plug connect to the accelerator.

#4 in diamgam is the connection. #1 is the unit.

This is the pedal that does not have the shinny metal insert for the pad. Its just the plastic. Diagram #1 Part number 35426786283.

And the throttle body. You can see the electrical connection terminal at the top of the unit.

Throttle body housing for the R50 R52 MINI Cooper (base engine) #1 in the diagram. Part number 13547509043

Clear the codes after you un-clip and re-clip the connections. If it returns again its either the throttle position sensor in the pedal unit or the throttle body itself.

Thanks

FYI: Checked connections and replaced air filter. A world of difference, as no more issues with sputters and codes and I noticed that at very slow speeds acceleration is better and smoother. Thanks for the help.

Great, glad I could help.

Keep on eye on things, if it throws a code again to verify the connection was not clipped in all the way.
