Cost of replacing the crankshaft sensor?

Hey guys I have a crankshaft position sensor oil leak. I was wondering what I would be looking at for a ballpark for parts and labor to get this job done? Also the car is a 2006 MINI Cooper S.

The part is around $100. Labor is less than one hour.

Why buy the sensor when its only the o-ring that goes bad? $3 plus about an hour of labor. I did mine today in conjunction with a radiator replacement.

O okay I thought since the front bumper has to come off it was going to be a much bigger job. Figured since it was near the supercharger it would be a lot of work.

There are directions on here for a "strap" method to pull the engine back to get some working room. I just pulled off the bumper to make it easier. O-ring was $4.50 and some rtv gasket maker.

ok book time on to replace the Crank Position Sensor (CKP) is 2.1 flat rate hours. This involves removing the front bumper cover and support, and sliding the radiator support into service position, thus the labor time. Currently, I've been replacing the o-ring without doing any of that in less than 1/4 the time. Youll need a combination of the following tools to not fuss with the bumper cover: 1/4 ratchet, 2 inch extension with a deep 10mm 1/4 drive socket OR 4 inch extension with shallow 10mm, #2 philips, a light, a good sense of touch, and some brake cleaner.

As you can see, about $4 for the part (o-ring) but around $250 labor if you have the work done.

Look in the "How To" section. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to remove the front bumper cover and go into "service mode". Save some money and get to know your car.

Personally, I don't like messing around, so I just removed the front bumper, support and the upper radiator hose and pulled the rad away to gain access to it. May sounds overkill, but I did the same when I replaced my alternator. I'm used to work on a lift (mechanic), so at home, I'm on the floor and I don't like wasting my time working in restricted spaces :p In all honesty, if you're a bit handy, check the how-to and do it yourself, you'll save money to spend somewhere else. It's really only a matter of removing a couple parts (putting it in service mode or going mad like me), unplugging the sensor, removing the bolt holding it to the block, pulling the crank sensor, replacing the seal and putting everything back together.
