Scuttle Run Around

Hi Guys,

Bought new chili red hardtop in June...driving two weeks ago heard something in the road (not uncommon in ATL!) and got home to find my driver side union jack scuttle gone. I'm assuming it came off from any of the million potholes but nonetheless it's gone. Mini dealership said oh well we aren't covering it but will sell you a set at cost, called Mini 866 number and they said they back up the dealership's decision to not cover the replacement. I've seen several posts about them being replaced. Thoughts? Raise more hell?
Thanks!

Assuming that it was installed correctly, I'm not sure how it can fall off ? I have to open to hood to get enough slide room to get it off. . . are those the original scuttles ??

Cost is $75- I don't think I should have to pay anything when it is 4 months old!

Yes they're original. If you look at my pic of the car in my albums you can see it. I checked the other side and it just slides out and pops off. The rear mirror cover wasn't installed correctly and it just pulled off as well. Totally beside the point but same service guy said that that's how it's supposed to be then looked closer...

Here are the side scuttle inserts: They snap into the backing, if you do get new ones just make sure they are snapped in all the way. I have seen people snap the tabs off when inserting half way.

Or you can change it up and keep / sell the other side. One other thing is to maybe change the design if they will not cover them under warranty or dealership good will.

Union Jack in the new Ray line series: Pink is below, but they come in Blue, Green, White, Yellow, and Orange. These is also Ray Line series items.

Other options:

These of course if anyone else want these will need the holders. Part # 51130414453

Also if the mods can move this to Gen 2 forum. This is in Gen 1 MINIs , so people will not get confused.

Thanks and I hope you get things situated . Good luck.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you, a 4 month old should not have parts falling off, and you should not have to pay for it.

I'd go talk to them again. Remember you get more bees with honey...give them the I'm frustrated and dissapointed speech...be nice but firm.

Try a different dealer if there is one in your area or in your future travels. You could also just call a different dealer and asked if it was covered and if so drive there. You shouldn't have to do this but you might get it replaced.

HAHA totally agree. That's how I've been so far. I'm heading there tomorrow morning. My salesman,(who is awesome), spoke with his manager and they are "going to try to help me". I've read on many forums that the dealership south of Atlanta is great and hasn't turned anyone away for this issue. I just REALLY didn't want to go to the southside for this!

Thanks guys!!

Pretty common to hear that from the dealer you're talking about. If we can help just let me know since we are local.

All is well...Mark called and said I needed to make a trip back to the dealership. The old Sales Manager came out, looked at it, said 'No Problem!" and now I'm complete. I told them look, I'm a girl and I like things to match. You don't see me running around with only one earring...turds.
