Reattaching shift cables

Reattaching shift cables
Huge mess replacing my clutch, I'm trying to reattach the shifter cables and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Does anyone know how to correctly reconnect the cables? The shifter in the cabin is out of sync with where it should be when placed in gear. I'm at a total loss and would appreciate any knowledge you can share.
Thank you.

I replaced my clutch as well and I don't recall that you can connect them on the wrong sides. You have to have the release clips pulled back and just snap the receiver joints onto the *****. Then relics the clips. My 2902 MCS was straight forward. Bleeding the hydraulics with the new master and slave was where my trouble started.

Make sure that you place the neck of the cables back on the plastic base on the tranny, make sure that they are seated correctly before you reconnect them.
To the tranny.
In my case I left the shifter in gear by mistake and released out of gear by pulling the lever on the tranny by hand. It may work for you but I didn't know what I was doing lol so I just took chance and it worked for me.
Placing the cables on the plastic base was easier to do it from underneath the car once you reinstall the cables your shifter will come back to life
