CVT: No Forward or Reverse

CVT: No Forward or Reverse
Hi All,
I have been searching my butt off and can't seem to find this info, so apologies if I've missed a valuable thread. I have an '04 Cooper with the CVT, and last night it appears to have died. The car became highly erratic when launching from a stop - jerking - and after taking off from a stop on a hill, I got a box full of neutrals.
My question is this: Does the normal failure mode of the CVT result in no forward OR reverse gears? This seems strange in that it's my understanding that reverse in the CVT is handled by a traditional fixed gear rather than the CVT belt. Could it be an electrical issue? Some other non-fatal problem?
All help is appreciated!

Better keep an eye on the progress of the following. Anything I've heard or read of the CVT, once they go toes up that's it.

This is a proposal and not final, but it says that the coverage limitation for the settlement is 8 years/150,000 miles by the effective date of 4-2-14.
See www.minicvtsettlement.com for details.
If you fit in this category, you might want to call your MINI dealer and see if they will honor this proposed settlement now and repair your car.
Good Luck.
