The bolt is from my MINI. It was from the engine mount that had been replaced about a month ago (see attached). The mechanic was unsure of why it would have loosened, but I am to keep an eye on it and see if it begins to loosen, again.
Fascinating...sounds like your mechanic needs to break out the torque wrench more often! Glad you found it.
Good luck with the struts - if you were close to MD, I'd be willing to help out. You might try getting some used ones with lower miles from a junkyard to save some $$. Reason for suggesting this is my struts were fine after over 100K miles and I noticed almost no difference after replacing them even though a mechanic recommended it. I felt like it was wasted money...
I think some of the motor mount bolts are torque to yield which means they have to be replaced when you remove then. Could be why the one fell out. Glad to see you got it figured out though!
Thanks for the offer, gknorr. It might actually be worth it to make the drive up from Orlando. :-)
I'll keep an eye on it, v10climber, and if it starts to loosen again, I'll replace it.
I'm glad, too. I don't know what future damage or wear it may have caused, but I'm glad we caught it.
