n18 high pressure fuel pump failure and walkthrough.

Hey gents, I had my HPFP die the other day and replaced it with a genuine mini part from Mini Mania, all said it took roughly an hour on my own you need a 14mm wrench for the fuel lines, an 8mm socket and extension for the 3 mounting bolts, a flathead screw driver or 7mm bolt to remove the intake from the turbo, filter as well.

Basically speaking you remove the intake and Intake electrical connections to gain access to the high pressure fuel pump. The pump itself is located on the right side of the engine at the top and looks like a silver box. To remove the pump you need to renove the 14mm fuel lines, one is on the pump and the other end is just under the intake manifold. Unscrew the couplers and remove the line, set it aside and dont bend it.

Next you can remove the low pressure line from the pump, there are 2 plastic nubs that stick out from the metal coupler. Press these 2 nubs and pull the coupler to remove, it should slip off.

Now you can loosen and remove the 3 8mm bolts that hold the pump on, inser the flathead driver under one of the mounting points and give the pump a light pry to remove.

Finally remove the pressure sensor wires from the sensor and set the old pump aside.

To install the new pump you must make sure that the bar that rotates aligns with the end of the camshaft. Then ensuring that you plugged back in the pressure sensor, reinstall the bolts, then fuel lines, then sensors, then intake.

If you have had an n18 fuel pump fail please post up.

Thanks,

Sean
