Stumbling and then quit, tried to start, now no signs of life

Hi all, here's a rundown of what happened today. I have a 2003 MCS with 130k miles on the clock. I went to go to lunch today and drove about 10 miles and everything was fine. Came back out after eating (about 40 minutes later) and the car started but was all stumbly and was basically struggling to idle. Applying throttle did not change the RPMs. After stumbling at idle for approximately 5 seconds, the car died.

After it died, if I tried to start, the car would catch and stumble for just about a a second and then die. I did this maybe 20 times with no improvement.

Had the car towed home which took about an hour when all said and done. When I got home, it wouldn't even stumble, just nothing when cranking.

I tried the code reader and it's throwing no codes. Checked fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse and they are OK. However, I feel like I can't really hear the fuel pump whirring away when the key is in the On position. I feel like I used to be able to hear a slight sound. Or am I crazy? Any other ideas? Thank's ya'll.

Sounds like a fuel pump! When they go, it's all of a sudden

do cheap things first, check fuses, charge the battery and change the plugs, make sure you have fuel in the tank

Fuel pump guilty as charged. Got the new one at the local stealership yesterday for $290. Replaced in about an hour and boom started right up.
