Codes P0118 and P1638
Hello again everyone.
I recently had to change the thermostat housing and sensor in my 2007 MINI Cooper S due to a coolant leak and a code of P0128. While changing this, we also noticed a small coolant leak from the water pump and replaced the water pump and pulley as well. Once the car was put together and the coolant replaced and bled, we started to receive two new codes.
The first worry is a code P1638. We verified and re-verified that all plugs/sensors were reconnected correctly, and are now at a loss as to what is causing this new code. I have been able to clear this code with our scanner tool but it continues to come back each time we restart the car.
The second code we are receiving is P0118. Each time this code is thrown, the fans will kick on as if the car is overheating but the engine is still cold. Once the code is cleared, the fans shut off but within seconds, the code reappears. I checked the coolant temperature on our scanner tool and it is reading 285 degrees even from a cold start.
We have confirmed there is no longer any leaks in the system and the coolant is through the entire system.
Any suggestions?
