-150 Flashes on ignition

Hi, When I start my 2005 R53 Cooper S, -150 flashes in the dash (Where the miles are displayed). Has anyone else experienced this and what does it mean?

Thanks

sounds like your outside temp probe is disconnected or missing so the system thinks it is cold .... real cold ...

Could it be the service indicator, it is due a service?

if the number grows ... like tomorrow it is -175 then it is just the service advisor ... the number will grow until you reset the service counter.

if it stays at 150 ... I suspect you are getting a false temp warning ... the car warns when the outside temp is below freezing . . . ice warning. You should also get a couple of bongs (as in bing-bong) if this is the case. Quick check, can you pull up outside temp on the computer?

Yup...
150 miles overdue...will become a bigger neg number as you drive...
Some places do not reset the indictor.... But a few threads around....you can diy it with a few pushes of the trip reset button...

to reset the counter:

To reset the service interval indicator:

push & hold trip button

turn ignition key to position 1 and 15A will appear to left of mileage

release trip button

wait 3 seconds

push trip button

wait (5 - 8 seconds) for RST to appear in left corner

release trip button

push trip button

15000 [or kilometer equivalent] will appear as new service interval {note: you may see a different number here ... don't worry ... sometimes the interval if for the next service event which is not oil . . }

release trip button

NOTE: the GEN1 cars can be VERY persnickety about the timing of these button presses. It usually took me at least 6 tries b4 the procedure worked .. but it eventually worked . . .
