IHKA On Board Diagnosis - 2005 JCW
I'm having air conditioner issues (documented here) and in researching I learned about the IHKA On Board Diagnosis. I have a 2005 with the redesigned controls as pictured below. The instructions say to press the off button and the blower + button at the same time.
Where is the off button? Or what button(s) do I push? Or is this not possible on a 2005?

I have also had Climate Control (IHKA) problems with my Feb '05 Cooper. I also spent a lot of time trying to find out how you extract the error codes. The only way I could do it was by purchasing a Creator C110 BMW specific code reader which covers virtually all systems on a R50/R53. Here in the UK it cost £35 on ebay, so that will probably be $35 in the US.
From what I could see in the pdf on bmwplanet the codes only cover problems within the cabin and not the compressor or radiator cooling fan.
Anyway hope that's of help.

Thanks, I've been thinking about getting a cable so it helps to know which works. I've read about people buying cables that don't work.
I found instructions buried in a thread somewhere (can't remember where) but here is how you get to the On Board Diagnosis on the later type controls.
1. Turn ignition key to position 2.
2. Turn on AC by pressing * (snowflake).
3. To access the On Board Diagnosis, press and hold the * button and + button simultaneously for 2 seconds. The display will show Mode 1 with a single bar (\). Press the AUTO button again to scroll to Mode 2 (\\) and Mode 3 (\\\).
4. To start the test in each mode, pres
