Who has a rear power socket?
#1
The cars I test drove had rear power sockets (for neat things like the "cool bag," which I had planned to purchase for long trips). I thought I had one too, but instead I have a neat round little PLUG on the left side of the boot. GRR!!! Did they make the power outlet optional on 2003s?

errrrr. Scratch that.
I wasn't reading closely enough. I have the round 12v plug - like a cigarette lighter outlet - but no "power socket."
That's what I get for "speed posting." I was in the middle of something else, jumped on the PC for two secs, posted, and now that I'm able to read it better I see I didn't pay enough attention. I guess it is a wasted post. ops:

Okay guys, now you've got me confused. I have a 12-volt power socket in the upper left wall of the boot. It's a cigarette lighter-style connection, covered by a plastic dust plug. My Cooper is a 2002, August-build.
Socket? Plug? Outlet? Are these all the same thing?
[Mini2Go : If you do have the socket, it may be working. On the MINI, the cigarette lighter(s) are not live when the ignition is off.]

I was surprised to discover this very same thing! Isn't it odd that the lighters/sockets (front & rear) have no juice when the MINI is not running?

Thanks for the tip! I will have to try it again now that I know this! Who woulda thunk it? Not me. Seems to limit the functionality of the boot outlet -- I really don't want to breathe exhaust fumes while working with something behind the car.

Mini2Go,
I've learned that quite a few cars don't have live ciggy lighters when the car is turned off.
But just to clarify, though the sockets are dead when the MINI is turned off, you don't actually have to have the engine running for them to work. You just need to have the ignition on. [The key has to be in position 1 or 2.] No need to breathe fumes when working in the back of the car.
