Airbag Light Stays On - Code 05

Working my way through the problems with my 2003 MCS, I now come to the dreaded air bag light - which has been on the entire time I've owned the car (four months).

I purchased a B800 tool a couple weeks ago and it showed the following codes:

05 Firing Circuit, Side Airbag, Front Left Side
06 Firing Circuit, Side Airbag, Front Right Side
10 Supply Voltage

I tried to clear the codes, and code 06 and code 10 went away. The airbag light remains on, and code 05 continues to come up when scanned.

I have driven the car for a couple weeks since that initial scan, and the airbag light is still on. I just re-scanned it and code 05 still shows.

Anyone know what I should do to inspect the front left side airbag firing circuit, fix the problem, and clear the code and light?

Have you checked the airbag fuse? have you reset your ecu?

Yes, I have checked the 5 amp air bag fuse (in the drivers side kick panel), and it looks fine.

I have not reset the ecu. A shop uploaded a custom tune, and am concerned that resetting the ecu will reset the tune to stock.

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

I finally got the light to turn off.

I connected the reset tool a number of times over the last few weeks, trying to clear the code. Eventually it reset the persistent code, and the light has stayed off ever since.

It's only been a few days, so perhaps I shouldn't report victory so soon. But I'm optimistic.

A bit of an update. The code reset worked for a few months, then the light came back on.

After resetting the light many times, I have found that the light goes on, throwing code 06 (Firing Circuit, Side Airbag, Front Right Side), almost every time I move the passenger seat.

If I reset the code, the light will stay off until I move the passenger seat again. But it comes back promptly after moving the seat. I've checked for loose wires under the seat, and everything seems snug.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this, and what to do about it?

Did you also check the wires for breaks/fatigue? The wire could be broken inside the insulation and look good, but still lose connection causing the light. Try resetting the light, then wiggling the wires/connectors without moving the seat.

RB-MINI, wiggling the wires was a good thought. It seems like the wire connection at one of the connectors is sloppy, such that the light is set off just about any time the wires are jostled.

I've got the light off now, and it seems to be staying off. But if it keeps coming back on, I may look hard connect those wires.
