Do I need the belt tool to do my oil pan gasket?

Guys,

The title says it all. Getting ready to do my oil pan gasket tomorrow - and saw a video on Youtube that shows the use of this tool. Can I get around using it?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Thanks,
Paul

Yes, because you have to remove the air conditioning compressor in order to drop the pan.

Yup as stated above the AC compressor needs to come out as it is bolted to the oil pan. Release tension from AC compressor. Remove AC compressor (leaving hard lines attached) place it onto a block or something to support weight.

Proceed with oil pan gasket.

You might want to read the DIY on AC clutch coil...there are 3 bolts one of which is very difficult to get at unless you pull the engine back. One of the DIYs says slide the lower mount out - there will be none of that. To get the thing out you will need to remove the 4 - 13mm bolts holding the bracket. This might also be attached to the oil pan...can't remember.

Good luck - go slow. Label carefully organize your bolts.

A socket and a prybar can be used....the "tool" makes it an easy 1 person job, but a prybar and a socket as s fulcrom and a 3rd hand works...the belt addition/removal that is...
If you don't know tricks like this...I see a very hard road ahead...
A diy is fine when things go right...but siezed bolts Etc vsn make life hell...

Couldn't agree more. I've been this guy in the past. Basically, just know what you're getting in to.
