Cannot move my shifter left or right!
Hey!
2007 Mini Cooper S. 160,000 KMS on it.
I can't move my shifter left or right. I can get it into 3rd of 4th, and it will go into gear and i can move the car.
It's been minus -15 / -20 Celsius all week here...but it was -30 and i didn't have that problem.
Any idea what is going on? I can wiggle / shake just a bit left and right, but I definitley can't go left or right normally....and I don't want to yank on the thing.

It might be a frozen cable... or it might be something in your "Gear Shift Lug"
I would either disconnect the shift cables from the Gear Shift Lug and see if it then moves Right and Left or I would disconnect the cables at the transmission and see if the cables are moving when someone tries to move the it Right and Left...

Best of luck
Motor on!

I would bet it's a frozen cable. One cables is front/back and the other is left/right. You could pop them off at the transmission end and see if the shifter moves but you'd have to remove part of the intake and then the ends of the cables are kind of difficult to get off the trans sometimes. They are a ball and socket style connection. I think really your only options are to start the car and hope the exhaust heat thaws out the cables, let it warm up, or keep wiggling the shifter back and forth until it slowly breaks free.

When its supper cold like that the cable get hard and the transmission fluid does not like the super cold. You will also notice the clutch is hard to press in. The slave cylinder does not like the super cold.
Check the cables for ice on the front on top of the engine and also spray some penetrating oil on the pivot points of the . Up near #11 and #12

And #10 on top of the transmission.
Good luck.
