Radio was Intermittent when turning volume ****

My radio has finally stopped working entirely. Initially it would cut out (very abruptly) on its own or as volume control was turned. Then I could get it to come back on by rotating the volume **** quickly right and left; the sound would come back abruptly. Now it has stopped entirely. Has anyone had this problem? Hard to find the right words for the "search forum" function.

My mini is a 2004 and the radio is the Harmon Kardon. Nice radio until now!

Thanks in advance,

Kim

Grab some electronics contact cleaner spray from the auto parts store. In the past I have had home stereo systems do the same thing. Spray the contact cleaner in and around the volume ****. It helped mine. If I remember correctly I used the a cleaner that was made for one of the air sensors.

Thanks I will try that! Do you know if the volume **** can be remove just by pulling it or I have to remove the whole panel?

On gen 1 MINI.

Yea, sounds like the contacts in the **** function, you will have to pull the deck head out and then remove the front panel or top panel to access the volume contacts.

I don't think it will reach it just pulling the ****. Worth a shot first i guess. I used di-electrical cleaner in the past for other electrical connections.

***** listed below. You will have to pinch and give it a good tug.

On the Gen 2 , the **** is in the middle and pulling the center console unit is a bit more work.

I would try to just hit it first on that one once you pop out the ****, same thing , pinch and pull. Its the one at the bottom below the CD .
