Used superchargers

So my supercharge bit the dust this morning. I need to source one ASAP.
There is a wreck near me and their online inventory shows they have one from a 2002 MCS. If the price is right should I pick it up and change the oil in it? Is there anything else on them that should be change. Is 2002 too old?

Any info on this would be awesome. Money is tight right now otherwise I would pick up a nice rebuilt one.

IMO, mileage is more important than age for the SC. Definitely drain and refill, and it would only make sense to open up the rear and confirm the PTO gears are in good shape.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent or prolong their life? Changing the oil is pretty darn easy when it's already out. But is there anything that can be done to the PTO gears?

How many mile is too many in your opinion?

Mileage is a variable, but the bell curve is wide. The oil is the thing - it protects the gears. The PTO gears will eat themselves if the rear runs dry. But there are other tolerances that vary as with any piece of mechanical equipment. Some have gone dead at 60K (miles), others will still be going at 200K.

My supercharger was just replaced yesterday with a new one that I bought from Way Motor Works. I bought it with a new water pump installed and a 17% pulley. Jerry at EuroTechs installed it for me. When I drove it home yesterday it was a HUGE comfort knowing it should last for several years to come. I contemplated a used SC but decided I was not comfortable paying half the price of a new one for something I knew nothing about. Now I won't hesitate to jump in my MINI and take a road trip.

+1. I would not be comfortable buying a used SC unless it was rebuilt.

I also agree it's not worth doing the labor more than once
