New Mini Owner and Member....

What's happening guys?....I'm a new Mini owner, picked my 2005 MCS back in November....i heard a rattle coming from the exhaust a couple days ago and noticed my resonator is rusted to *****....I just ordered a CAI and it should be here this week....i'm thinking about going one ball since the resonator is shot anyway....Between adding the CAI and the one ball mod 'm a little nervous, will this trigger a check engine light?.....

Welcome to the MINIacs!

Don't know if the one ball MOD will throws codes. But if the sensors are accounted for and mounted it should be OK.

Motor on!

The one ball mod won't throw a light at all.

Intakes don't usually cause a light either, but it will depend on the brand as we have seen a few rub on wiring or crack and cause a light.

cool, thanks Way....i found a local guy who specializes in Benz, BMW/Mini and Porsche....
He said anything from the 2nd 02 sensor back and i'll be fine, no codes.....i went to Monroe Muffler last night and they want $175 to get it done....i feel like i'm getting raped after seeing peoples posts about only paying 50-100...

Try an independant exhaust shop. It's not rocket science, pretty straight forward job.

$175 might be a little high, but not crazy in the NYC area. if the outer skin of your resonator is shot, it means that the rest of the exhaust will have at least surface rust, meaning more prep work to weld the one-ball together. To do the one-ball right, you have to drop (or at least hang the back end) the exaust twice:

1. drop exhaust and cut
2. re-hang exhaust and tack weld
3. drop exhaust and complete welds
4. re-hang exhaust.

It's a little bit of work.
