Power loss shifting into drive

Power loss shifting into drive
Hello. So, in the morning, and sometimes after work, depending on temperature outside, when I first shift into drive after starting the car, it's fine for about a second, and then drops down to 500 rpm and then back up (usually about 12-1300 cold at idle). Doesn't quite die, and no codes except for one time when I didn't let it warm up at all at -10F outside temp. All other driving seems fine, but this early morning power loss has me worried about stalling. Anyone heard of this issue / know a solution? Car is a 2004 Cooper with CVT. Thanks.

Not very no of a problem, no. Been occuring at least all winter. Just bought it last summer so I'm not sure if it's always a cold weather problem, but lately it has been for me. Cold fluid does seem like a likely candidate. Is there anything that can be done about cold fluid giving so much resistance, or would that be more of a "quirk of the car, gotta deal with it" sort of thing?
