How many miles on your R56, and what issues have you had?
#76
2013 MCS with 41K.
The only issue I've ever had was with the TPMS failing. The entire system had a fault and the DME module needed to be replaced under warranty. Also, the dealer found corroded wires in the rear bumper.
Other than that, never had a single problem!
Always do maintenance on time with the best parts. I also run my own detailing business, so my car is always clean. And clean cars drive better IMO

159,000 on an '08 S. I've had to replace literally everything except (thinking here...) the alternator, heater core, radiator, fuel tank, and some of the body/chassis/interior. Oh, and my rear wiper. That's original. First motor made it to 154k, second motor went in a couple months ago, and second trans is going in now. Don't ask me why I haven't scrapped it.

07 MCS with 112000 miles and still going strong. I got it used with about 47k on it back in 2012. The only major problem so far is the turbo oil feed line is leaking but that is a common problem with those years. I will be attempting that probably some time this spring, hopefully it goes ok.
Other than that, it has been a great car and look forward to many miles in it!

Just purchased an 09 R56 S with 47,083 miles. From speaking with the owner and the carfax I ran prior to purchasing, there has been no damage to the vehicle. It has a new windshield and battery. Tires are less than a year old. They weren't replaced with run flats do to the cost and was told because they tend to wear out fast.
Just gotta say this is my first Mini and I absolutely love it!

If you drive like I do, ANY tire will not last very long! Granted, the runflats did seem to go away more rapidly. Do what I did....buy the MINI Mobility Kit. It includes a can of tire-fix stuff, and an air compressor. Plus, a pair of gloves! LOL. I augmented mine with some tire plugs and the necessary tools. A jack of some type would be nice to have, as well. Still looking into that. I am covered if it is a puncture in the tread, not at all if it's sidewall damage. I do have AAA, so that should cover a tow home if the tire is unrepairable on the side of the road. Have fun! Motor On!

R56 issues
I just got my 2013 Mini last year. It started with 36k, it now has 50k. No more warranty!! I am considering a warranty, though I am curious to know common problems before I purchase a top of the line warranty! Any recommendations? As of late, I keep feeling the engine sputter. While I am accelerating it feel like put out put, or the engine is firing out, or it is chugging. I am. It sure of the issue? Also, I can always smell something like burning plastic whenever I park the car and am waking away! Thank for the help!

Now at 105,700 miles. No further issues. Replaced the OEM battery in January, halfway through it's fifth winter, typical for here (hot summers / cold winters).

R56 chug
So I just hit 50,205. So far (knock on wood) no issues, but I feel like there is definitely a problem! It happens at least once a week now. It feels like chugging, or the engine is stalling from no gas (full tank). I mentioned it to the mechanic and they said sorry we can't replicate the issue and that ended it there. Thanks for the advice!

2013 MCS with every JCW and GP upgrade possible except the turbo.
28k miles, purchased it 6 months ago with 16k miles.
Only issue so far has been a coolant hose rubbed through which caused an unnoticed overheat until the engine was toast. Had the engine replaced under warranty at 24k.
I also lost a jack pad running over a cone at an autocross.
I am impressed with how well it took the brutal winter here where the road I live on turned into a washboard of packed snow.

Spark plugs...still original ones ????
These Turbo S models over time will actually create larger spark plug gaps as the electrodes deteriorate.....
Swap them out every 35-40K miles.

At less than a year into ownership of my 09 MCS (Laser Blue) it burst into flames while parked at the mall. It was a total loss. Had a very negative impact on my ability to enjoy my 09 JCW which I purchased afterwards. I took a break from the MINI family but am back now with a F60 on order.
Problems I had with my 09 JCW:
Windows not working properly in the winter.
Sat radio stopped working.
Intermittent burning smell (undiagnosed-- but scary given prior experience)
TPMS randomly failing even when all tires are same pressure and external temp is constant.

2007 R56 s 96K Miles - Original Owner
Clutch/pressure plate
Turbo
Valve Cover
Water Pump
Aux Water Pump (warranty)
Turbo Oil Line
Heat/Cooling Interior Fan
Timing Chain/Guide/Tensioner cartridge (warranty)
Oil Housing / Oil Cooler gaskets (oil Leaking)
HPFP (warranty)
Due to cost - I have been doing most of the work myself - I no longer autocross this car as the cost of repairs/parts is unacceptable - replaced in AX by Miata.
While the car still looks and runs like new in every way and everything works.... it terrifies me what is lurking next especially a vacuum pump or timing chain failure costing an engine.

2008 S N14 engine. 129K miles on it. Two sets of brake pads, normal wear. Water pump replacement at 30K miles on a recall. Timing chain tensioner at 30+ K miles on recall. New valve gasket at 120K miles. Three sets of spark plugs, normal wear. 129K miles timing chain and tensioner needs replacement, stat! I thought it was a sticky valve but its the chain tensioner. Engine uses 1 quart of oil every 1K- miles. Change oil every 7K miles. I've used BG engine flush twice and use 44K every once in a while. We have access to ethanol free premium gas which I use when I can. I'm hoping to get 180K miles out of this engine.

So far I have only had to replace an 02 sensor but, I need to replace my brakes and rotors asap as my current rotors are slightly warped. I'm also gonna be doing a bunch of prevented maintenance on it the next month or so. I will be taking it on a big road trip this summer from California to Texas! But I've enjoyed the car thus far.
