Unfortunately an unrevised problem being sold at a higher premium doesn't fix the initial issue, they'll still fail at the same rate.

Best you can do is to make sure you're running quality fuel and carry your lucky rabbits foot.

It's been said that our gas is the problem, many have stated that UK gas has lubricants in it. That might explain why it's such a huge issue here in the states. A rabbits foot doesn't seem to help, what does work is a big bank account and unspent savings.

Just had to have the HPFP replaced on my wife's 2010 MCS Clubman. Bill was close to $1200. OUCH ! I am somewhat a DIY guy on some vehicle but when it comes to working on the Mini, I am pretty much hands off because of all the computer associated issues that can follow when repairs are done. FYI the extended warranty on the HPFP in not necessarily year dependent. My wifes Mini was manufactured in Sept. of 2009, motor type N14, platform/engineering series R55 but when I called a Mini Rep he said the warranty was primarily vin # number dependent so even though the car was built in 2009, according to the vin # the HPFP extended warranty did not apply. Talked with the Customer Service Rep about a number of vehicle problems we have had to pay out big bucks for going back several years but he held rigidly to his statement that no warranty would be applied. I asked if he could contact the dealership to see if there could be some kind of adjustment made to the charges. He said he would contact the Service Manager at the dealership to see if there was something that the dealership would do on the billing price we paid but that would be entirely up to the dealership to make allowances. The Mini Rep also added that had we made contact with Mini before we had the work done they might have been able to provide more assistance. I told that Rep that it would have been difficult for that to happen as my wife needs her car to commute back and forth to work so we had no choice but to get it repaired ASAP. Will see what kink of response we get back from the Mini Rep.

There is not much info on the inside working o the HPFP for MINI, also not separate pieces that can be parted separately.

Only DIY here : https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...r-r56-jcw.html

Hopefully whiteoaks got reimbursed under the service bulletin that now covers his car under the 10year/120k mile warranty.

@perryinva - Thanks for your response. Are you saying that Mini has now (just recently, like since February) expanded the list of vehicles covered under that HPFP service bulletin??? As I said in my post, when I spoke to a mini rep at the time the work had just been performed I told the rep that the car was built in Sept of 2009, even though it was a 2010 model, but when I gave him the Vin # he came back and said that our vehicle did not fall into the group that was covered by the service bulletin. That was back in mid-February of 2016 and car had about 86K in miles on it but after reading your post I am now wondering if you are saying that some recent change to that service bulletin has been made that added more models/years/vehicle to the list? At the time (back in late Feb and early March) I made a couple of attempts to get Mini and the dealership to give us a discount but no luck. If you think there has been an update since then I will give them another call to see if our vehicle is now on the list. Please let me know if you are aware of an updated coverage list. Thanks again.

Yes, that is what I meant. I was reading another thread where the poster stated that recently (last few months) Mini had indeed expanded the coverage through the 2011 cars (not JCW). I would certainly contact Mini USA again. You can't of course, trust everything you read on a forum, but the thread (which of course I can't fine right now)contained more than one person that had a later car that was getting reimbursed, since the work was done at a dealer, same as you.

Thanks again @perryinva, I spent the last hour googleing and going through threads and posts on this site. I only found one post where someone got their HPFP replaced under warranty on their 2011 MCS. I'm surprised that there is not more information out there about an expansion of MC years to be covered under an expanded extended warranty. I'm not going to hold my breath but I will keep my fingers crossed and will call MINI tomorrow to see if in fact the warranty was expanded and see if I can get reimbursed. Sure would like to see that $1300+ that I was charged put back in my pocket. I'll report back with what I find out. Oh, what is JCW?

@Minnie.the.Moocher - Thanks for speaking up. Just a couple of questions if you would. When did you have your HPFP replaced (date please)? Did you have to request a reimbursement because you did not find out that your 2011 Countryman was covered until after the repair was performed or was the cost covered at the time you had the problem and repair work done?

I would sure like to hear from other MC owners who have 2010 or later models that had HPFP replacements that were covered by the expanded, extended warranty. If there are others out there, it would be helpful if you would please share your experience. I'm sure I'm not the only owner of a 2010 MC or later who is affected by this. Thank you,

Mid May 2016, full cost picked up by Mini. I needed a new Serpentine belt which I paid for. I had specific codes so I knew going in what the problem was.

Ok, so I spoke to both a Service Rep at the dealership and to a rep with the MINI Cooper mother-ship and both are still telling my that our vehicle is not covered under the warranty extension. The MINI rep is going to escalate my inquiry to someone higher but I'm not holding my breath. I do appreciate perryinva and Minnie.the.Moocher for their communication and comments. Will let all know if something new develops.

Well, I hope it's under warranty: my second HPFP just quit at 33.8k miles (first one went at 8,500). And of course, it's the weekend so they won't even look at the car for two more days, and the dealership has no loaners available.

Here's to hoping, we've had customers shot down from our local dealer on the second (or third) failure because they "only cover the first failure".

But our local dealer service is nationally known for its lack of customer satisfaction.

Hey nkfry, would like to know if it is possible that hpfp could damage injectors on n14?

If driven for a prolonged period of time I'm sure the aeration of the fuel being charged in the injector could damage the needle and seat, but I've never replaced injectors in any of these cars.

I know that the early MK6 Volkswagen TDIs were having huge problems with injectors when the lobes in the HPFP failed and ran metal particulate through the injectors. Wanna talk about costly...

Ha! Funny thing... sort of: when the car broke down at 8.5k miles, I thought the symptoms seemed like a bad coil pack or spark plug, but it turned out to be the HPFP. This time, the exact same symptoms actually turned out to be two bad coil packs (cylinders 2 & 4), rather than the HPFP.

Since this is the car that I take on long trips (just got back from one, in fact, a couple days before the breakdown), it concerns me that this happened at <34k miles. I kind of wish they had just replaced the other two coil packs while they were at it.
