Sunroof leaking question: Is seal replaced with new cassette?

Hi all,

Two years ago, the sunroof on my daughter's 2007 Mini R56 got stuck in the open postion. It was actually in a weird, crooked angle. We took it to the dealer, and they ended up replacing the 'cassette', which cost $2,700!

Fast forward to today. The passenger floor has been really wet, as water is pooling up there (passenger side only). Internet research pointed us to a leaky sunroof. We found evidence of this when we peeled the headliner back a bit. So, we took it to the dealer, thinking that they would repair it under warranty (from the previous cassette replacement).

They just told us that the sunroof "seal" is bad, and needs to be replaced. I said, "This should be covered under the warranty, correct?". They said, "we never touched the seal, so no, it's not".

This is my question: Is the seal usually changed when a sunroof cassette is replaced? Or is it a totally separate area? I need to know if this is something that they did improperly with the cassette installation.

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Do you have the receipt for the old sunroof repair ? If you have the part list replaced I can help you out.

Depends on which seal it is.

If it's the inner seal on the cassette, they would've either had to remove it from the old cassette, or install a new one.

If it's the outer perimeter seal that seals the glass to the roof, then no, they would not have touched that one.

The cassette was totally replaced just under two years ago, so I imagine that the 'inner' seals are new. Thanks for answering. It sounds like they didn't change the 'outer' seal at the time.
