Failed State Inspections 2 Items Needed

I went to Mini of Baltimore today to get my state inspection this morning.. (Dont even ask my opinion on MD State Inspection) I failed because of two things torn Upper Strut Mounts and Shifter Binding (Which I thought the same as well)...

Strut tower mounts I can get from ECS or Pelican and that would explain the clunk Im hearing when I go over bumps. I need help on how to find out what the heck is going on with the shifter and if I should just replace the assembly.. Thoughts?? Anyone else ever had a problem with the shifter binding?? I stated before that it feels as if its really stiff compared to the R50's and R53's...

The previous owner said the clutch was replaced right before i bought the car. I wonder if the person who did it messed up the shift linkage and/or assembly or something.. ??

My service advisor had the tech go through the car for me as a good gesture and found the following:

- Valve Cover separator leaking
- Transmission Drain Plug leaking (Has the wrong washer on it)
- Front Crank Seal Leaking

Good thing about this is that since Im doing the timing chain kit I can fix all of these at the same time. The service advisor said it looks like I will need a whole Valve Cover.. Is that right?

hello,

You can get the items from us. possible when they reinstalled the clutch and put the cables back, they did not install them right. That's my guess. Compared to my R52 , my r56 shifter was much softer, smother/

The Valve cover here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...lve-cover.html

Transmission Drain Plug leaking (Has the wrong washer on it) : 23127602815

https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...815/ES2079796/

Shows its just the plug , no washer ?

- Front Crank Seal Leaking , this should have been done with the clutch if it was leaking.

Shifter cables. Check to see if they match the diagram.

I'd get the Lemforder mounts http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg2.htm#item6. Great replacements. The PCV valve is built into the valve cover and if those leak, you need the whole cover itself and not just the gasket unfortunately. Other areas of it are known to leak as well. MINI has the updated valve cover here - http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...-7-646-555-BOE. Doesn't come with the warning labels and the wings, but they're there. For the shifter binding, I'd check the cables and make sure they aren't in poor condition. If they are it could cause an issue.

Its in that thread linked, but here you go.

Shaft Seal ( between the block and transmission ) Driver side . 85X105X8

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/11117568263/

Its a bit of a job, drop the transmission and take the flywheel and clutch out to get to that seal.

Clutch DIY takes you there:

I think some are talking about front crank seal, and some are talking about rear crank seal. I think the rear crank seal is accessed by removing the tranny, clutch, and flywheel. This being a MINI, I would not be surprised if I were wrong, and they have reversed the names. Lol.

True... what was referenced was the rear crank seal the front crank seal has a smaller measurement...

Both are linked above now, thought you posted rear seal, since that's what most people check when doing the clutch. Also listed the sizes for comparison.
