Happened to me today

I want to replace my spark plug and seems like the person before close it too strong.
looking for a way to extract the gasket out... worse case scenario I’ll take it to the mechanic

BMW prescribes the use of extensions with joints for unscrewing and screwing of spark plugs in R56 engines.

Quote:
Flexible ratchet extensions must always be used. If rigid mounting tools are used, there is a risk of insulator breakages.
Note: Also do not use a variable plug connection with locking capability as this also poses a risk of insulator breakages.

I just sheared a plug off, same basic thing. Below the gasket, snapped the porcelain off, too. Obviously got to buy a torque wrench in inch-feet for this task (was using a high-range wrench at its lower end, couldn't feel it hit 17 ft-lbs and snapped it with ease), but I wouldn't have thought to use a flexible extension without seeing this. I can only hope that tomorrow is decent enough weather for me to spend all day extracting the pieces of porcelain/electrode which are hopefully intact in there, back that plug out and install to correct torque.

I would have take a rod of some sort and the strongest epoxy I could find and glued the rod to the end of the plug and let it fully cure and then hope it backed it out without breaking the epoxy seal.. just a thought .
