Restraint System Malfunction R56

I have spent the better part to this afternoon researching this fault code I get on my MINI Connected screen as well as the airbag symbol on the tachometer screen.

I realize now what the specific issue was. I disconnected the steering wheel airbag to remove and repair the peeling paint on the bottom spoke. When I replaced the airbag, I inadvertently did not plug in the electrical connector properly. I received the error. I disconnected the battery as I did the first time, removed and connected the connector properly and reconnected the battery. The code is still there. I should mention that my Scangauge II does see any errors.

From my research, this code needs to be reset, I know the reason why the error has occurred.

How difficult is this to do, can my local independent MINI repair garage fix it easily?

I am leaving on vacation tomorrow morning and am wondering if I can get this done or will I miss out on my vacation?

Thanks in advance for any insight any of you might be able to provide.

If has been properly repaired, I believe the code will go away on it's own after a few driving cycles..

It happened to me as well, on a different brand car. For safety reasons, if restraint system failure occurs the lamp will not go out even if the error is no longer present. You can reset it with a BMW-specific scantool or INPA/ISTA-D. If you get a bluetooth OBD2 adapter, you can use "Carista" an android app to do that. I liked Carista, because it is the only app I found that supported both BMW and VW group vehicles and did not require its own dongle.
