Timing chain broken cam gear bolt snapped
bought the car Friday this past week. didn't even make it home befor it died . popped the hood found the intake inlet boot cracked. replaced boot still no start. replaced battery and starter still no start just clicking. pulled dip stick and it didn't go back in so led to believe chain tensioner guide broken, pulled valve cover to find no cam chain or intake sprocket. found sheared bolt was able to pull it out along with the sprocket. luckly its covered just took to bmw today. 2009 mcs. 57k miles.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the vacuum pump is seized. We've seen a couple of cars that have had seized vacuum pumps and caused the cam bolts to break due to low oil level.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. I just bought my 07 MCS in June. I put 4k miles on my car and did my oil change. Nothing seemed out of the norm. I put 300 miles on it after the oil change and the car ran fine until i came to a stop light at an exit ramp where the car quit.
I pulled the dipstick and it wouldn't come out but 4 inches. I drained the oil and didn't seen any metal shavings. i pulled the cam cover and found the sprocket laying there with the bolt sheared off and in the bottom of the pan were a couple chunks of aluminum.
