Mini CAR ALARMS?

I have the factory alarm and it's great. I can even leave the windows down if I'm in ear-shot. If someone sticks in a hand the alarm goes off because of the motion detector. As for LoJack... if anyone steals my MINI I don't know if I'd want it back. I had a friend who's Civic Si was stolen and recovered, Even after $7000 of insurance work it just wasn't the same car. I'd rather just buy a fresh one.

I would LOVE to have the alarm, but it's not available yet!! I just picked up my '03 Cooper and am freaked out about having it messed with! I live in San Francisco and we have a lot of freaks here! But seriously, my Acura Legend was stolen in August, so I want to prevent that from happening. My dealer did say that the car couldn't be hot wired without the key, though. Is that true? Does that mean they couldn't steal my car? I don't want it to be vandalized, either, though! I called Ask Mini and they said the kit wasn't available yet, but hopefully within first quarter of 2003! HELLO!! What is the holdup??? Ridiculous! What are we supposed to do in the meantime? Anybody hear any differently?

Why do the dealers seem so clueless about this? I would guess that, for a competitive price, a lot of us would go for it (myself included). Furthermore, I would guess that, at an inflated price, most of us will probably go elsewhere (myself included).
Has anyone been able to get firm quotes on cost yet?

Got to stop worrying about how things like Lojack can allow Big Brother to monitor your life. If you have a newer cell phone, it probably contains technology in it that allows it to be located in an emergency after a call is made to 911. Mine does and I think it is a nice safety feature despite the fact that the Illuminati is following my every move.
And if the thought of that that creeps you out, let me just remind you that if you have a telephone of any type in your home, there is a microphone in it that might actually be broadcasting your secrets to "The Man" regardless of whether or not it is hung up or "turned off".
Oh, and btw, I like that shirt you are wearing right now. Looks great on you!

>>im not sure why dealers are saying the alarm is not available. I got one installed Nov 28th when I picked up my mini in NJ.
Which NJ dealer? Princeton MINI told me that they couldn't do the alarm install yet (I called just a few days ago). I might just have to motor on over to where you got it installed.

From the sounds of it, it looks like the Alarms may be trickling into the dealerships. I have asked my dealer and he doesn't have any idea when the alarm (or hands free cell phone) is going to arrive. I keep reminding him to call me when he hears anything. I don't have a garage and my 'hood isn't the best area either. I would be devestated if someone stoll my lil guy. *peeks out the window*

There was a MINI factory alarm system listed on E-bay the other day... It was listed for a buy it now price of $390.00 US... the picture showed all components along with the replacement turn signal stem with the LED on the tip. They said the MINI is pre-wired for the system and that all you do is "plug" in all the parts and take your car to the dealer to have the alarm initalized... I think there was about 8 or so different parts... It was listed by a Canadian seller. I guess the $390.00 US wasn't too bad a price... Happy Holidays, Paul
