Gen1 Code Reader
#2
There are numerous readers out there. It depends how much money you want to pay, how much information you want to have and what codes you can erase. You can get them at autopart stores, some of our vendors here may have, ebay, amazon and numerous other places. There are stand alone systems and those that piggy back to a phone.
Mini uses a BMW based ECU system so that is one thing you must have. Your 08 R52 is a Gen1 based car as well.
I will move this to the Stock Problems/Issues section, should get some others to chime in.
And welcome to NAM.

I used this one with my convertible and its reads more stuff like the PDC sensors and faults as well as the convertible top faults and hall sensors.
