I will attempt to do that tomorrow. Turbo removal is intimidating me a little.

Recheck compression after you've cleaned those ports and valves.

Remove it as unit with the manifold. Get any replaceable seals nuts and so on in advance. If everything is unhooked it comes out fairly easily.

It's actually very simple. Replace the oil feed lines with the ones from Detroit Tuned. Also get new downpipe to turbo studs and nuts.

Hey guys. So I received my timing tool and figured I'd check timing while I'm in the process of dismantling it. Timing seems to be good. But when I pulled the valve cover I seem to have white milky substance on the inside of the cover and over cylinder 1 also a little on the timing chain guide. Is this what I think it is and I'm looking at doing a head gasget? Pictures attached

It could initiate a leak in the oil cooler and/ or thermostat. Which are known issues.

could be moisture. When i used an after market valve cover, i had too much ventilation and had like a foamy substance on the inside of the cover. I put back the original cover and was done with it.

The point is, it isnt always a bad HG!

So I did a thing today...

So I decided to work on the mini today and went in full force. Removed front end so it's easier to access everything. Apparently my dumb a** discharged the air in the process by removing a hose that was in the way but I'll cross that bridge later on. Going to start removing the turbo and exhaust manifold. I may just remove the head and check the valves. Just wanted to give everyone an update seen as yall have been really helpful so far
😊

The sound resembles an exhaust leak and/or oil pump.

did the oil pressure light go away?

It's currently still disassembled. I can only do a little a day. Finlay got the turbo off. Tomorrow I'll pull the oil pan and then if there's no blockage I'll reassemble everything. I didn't think to check spark plugs and ignition packs before I pulled it apart so I'll do that soon also

Will do. I really want to get it running but my shoulder says otherwise. I had an 05 cooper s and I loved it for the whole 9 days I had it before the transmission went. I can't wait to drive this one. I will miss the supercharger whine though.

No update unfortunately. She's sitting all in pieces at the moment. I had surgery on my shoulder a few months ago and I got a little optimistic with recovery and ended up hurting myself taking the darn turbo out. That coupled with Florida summer heat.... But I'll get back to it in the next few weeks. I want to get it going before Christmas lol.

Oh man, wish you speedy recovery. The car can wait. Take care of you first.
