P1551 engine code after installing a new stereo
I installed a new pioneer double din stereo today, got the metra kit and the axxis harness, hooked everything up, tested everything before I buttoned it up and everything was working perfectly. I bolted everything back up and at first the car barely started and had a low gravelly sound until I let off the clutch. I came back 20 minutes later and everything seems to be working perfectly again, but now I have a P1551 engine code being thrown Which supposedly is the Camshaft Position Actuator 'A' Control Open Circuit Bank 1. It might be unrelated but I noticed when hooking it up that the harness for the Mini had 2 wires that had no match on the pioneers harness. They were both related to voltage switching when the car is in reverse or something to that effect. Whether or not those actually have anything to do with the current problem, is there any possibility of issues arising from not having those hooked up?

Hi Lopanda,
By any chance did you disconnected your (-) battery terminal before working on your Mini Cooper? If not then maybe you had a few lights on and drained the battery which causes the P1551 engine code to illuminate.
If I were you, I would reset the car's computer and see if the code comes back.
Good luck with your Mini Cooper.
*Note: Please take my suggestion with a grain of salt due to I am not a Mini Expert.

Replying to ancient threads in case anyone searches. If you have an aftermarket radio and the BMRC1 harness, you need to tie all three yellow wires together (one is the constant power to battery). The harness instructions say to leave one capped- this is what causes the gauge lights to go off and the P1551 code. Do not leave the one yellow uncapped; splice it into the other yellow wire. It’ll fix your problems.
