Radiator cooling fan vs resistor

Can I just take out the old resistor and solder in a new one or is it better to replace with a new fan that comes with the resistor. Will a new resistor fit in place of the old without any mod.?

I replaced the resistor in my daughter's R50 with the URO upgrade resistor. It is a direct fit. No problems so far.

Here is a link to it on the ECS website:

Thanks, just might do that, seems less expensive way to go. No need to replace the fan if it works fine.
Did the wires match up exactly? I hate having to try and figure which wire goes to what wire if the colours are not an exact match.
I am also having to replace the crankshaft sensor "O" ring while I am in there.

For less than $25, it was much less expensive versus a new fan. I did remove the entire fan assembly because I was replacing the radiator also. I cut the wires leading to the bad resistor, soldered the new wires in place, and it was good to go.
