crank pulley stuck

Hello

I'm having an issue removing the harmonic balancer. I have done this to many other cars, have the BMW mini tool, and have successfully removed my wifes r53 balancer, but mine will not come off.

Reason is that the prior owner had tried to remove it, and the bolts for their removal tool broke off in the pulley.

I used an easy-out to remove one of the bolts, but the other 2 holes are stripped.

The crank is actually bad/separated now, and car is undriveable. I have spent a few hours trying to remove this freakin balancer, and to the point of possibly trying to cut it off, but not sure.

What have some of you done to remove this, or what would you do if the 3 holes were stripped etc?

thanks in advance

Sounds like you need to tap the holes.

Then when you mount the tool makes sure the tool is parallel to the face of the pulley. If it isn't that is what will cause the bolts to break as the stress gets put on one bolt rather than all 3 bolts.

solved

Thank you all for your help. I used a punch, drilled 3 new holes, and used a hand tap... put the puller on and prayed to God, and then it came off!!!!

I am happily driving the pee out of my new-found hp with a new 4% crank pulley on.. the car was parked for 6 months.

thanks again

I don't understand; originally you wrote that your crank was "bad/separated". What did that mean? Perhaps you meant "pulley"?

I'm sure he meant the crank pulley.
