The point is with the R53/52 stock dampers, you cannot visually inspect the front of the damper to determine if it is beyond serviceable, like you cannot judge a book by the cover.

Here is one good thread that the front rubber of the pulley looked intact. I am by no mean saying the OP's pulley is definitely bad. Just be sure you don't miss diagnose if it is.

Just put an ATI on yesterday and can confirm that you cannot see any rubber with the newer redesigned unit.
