Beware the Bad Coolant Sensor
Just a heads up for anyone that runs into this. I replaced my Coolant sensor, and new replacement was faulty. On a multimeter, 20K resitance setting, our sensor should read around 17K. The brand new faulty one I got read 3K.
I found this out only after the sensor readout too high temp way too fast when the engine was running. Anyone doing a coolant sensor should run this test, as it take 2 min to test the leads.
Summary:
Good Sensor - 17K Ohms
Bad Sensor - 3K Ohms
Symptom: Car 'overheats' on gauges long before system can be bled. In addition the 1st and 2nd stage fan will come on very early as fail safes when a problem with the sensor is detected. Also the the car will stutter and run rough, this is because the ECU will artificially richen the mixture as another fail safe.
