Just a heads up for garages to work out of..
Hi all, ive seen on here (and on the mustang forumns) that alot of you out there are getting run over the coals by dealerships and even indy shops for repairs and even upgrades that you could have performed yourself easily and MUCH cheaper had you done it yourself.
and since there are alot of people who dont know about the “rent a garage” places out there i just thought id you know. These places are full mechanic shops basically, without the mechanics. You go in and pay to either rent just an open shop bay and tools or a bay with a lift (usually always 2-post lifts).
Most of these places also have all the tools you will need as well including “job specific tools” that most DIY weekend mechanics both wouldnt have and probably wouldnt need more than one (ie. “Safe” spring compressors, presses, brake lathes, O2 sensor sockets, etc).
I found out about these places in Arizona and they are catching on now all over the country. I am actually a master tech and have a heavy bus repair business and i still use one of these places (my lifts are too big for cars...and i like it when I actually dont have to clean up after mysef for once lol).
most places i have found charge from $15.00-25.00 hour will also have an overnight rate. While most of the ones ive used have helpful/handy guys working there, I wouldn’t call any of them “master techs” but most of the time they will have a good general knowledge if you get stuck.
Heres a few links to what im talking about (and no im not affiliated with any of them, i just hate seeing you guys paying for repairs that you would be totally to do if you had a place to work):

and if you cant find a shop by googling “do it yourself garage” or something similar just call your local community colleges auto repair dept and ask them, these shops always market themselves there or the local automotive trade schools.
hope this helps someone out there.

Used to have 2 in the DC/MD/VA area, but they both stopped offering the service due to liability issues and insurance costs. Unless you are military, there are no places to go as far as I can tell (but plenty of bases in the area).
I'm resorting to getting a lift once I settle into my new house and sell the old one.
